Building on current hot trends, dominant Spring/ summer 2009 styles will branch off in two main directions this season:
The first direction will be a return to the 1970s.? Spring/Summer 09’s interpretation of this look will be less sweet and more edgy than summer 08, and we will see styles become more extreme.
Shoes will be increasingly rougher and more ethnic with a strong connection to folk cultures, some leaning towards luxurious Russia, others to the more sophisticated English country side.
Natural and earthy materials like wood, raw unpolished leather, raffia and nostalgic print, will be combined, often with intentional mismatching of color or pattern.? Organic shapes, fringes and sandals will dominate this season
In contrast with the earthy 70’s look, the other strong direction will be a return to 90’s grunge.
This look is characterized by high waisted rolled up jeans or large pants, doctor martins shoes, check pattern, functionality and attitude.? Styles following this trend will use a lot of plastic materials, patent, glitter. Hard studs will be replaced by plastic studs or metallic rings which give a softer edge to the harder styles.
